Disney Inspired | Pocahontas Makeup

Today's Disney look is inspired by Pocahontas. My aim was to incorporate the general colours of Pocahontas' dress alongside her necklace while remaining pretty neutral and wearable, and I think I've managed it quite well.

I tried out a few new products for the first time when creating this look. Firstly, the Lily Lolo Mineral Eyeshadows. I decided to go for the original loose version as my only eyeshadows are pressed or cream, and while they're a little bit fussy to use you only need a small amount to achieve great pigmentation. I was also sent the Gracie Lashes from The Vintage Cosmetic Company to try. I'll have to admit to being a bit of a noob when it comes to false eyelashes, but I really want to get along with them and the only way to help my application is to practice!

Enchanted Kiss

Disney Enchanted Kiss Eyeshadow Palette - £12.00 (currently sold out)

I'd been waiting for a free delivery promotion to come along before buying a few things from the Beautifully Disney range when Marvelle messaged me and informed me that they were in the sale at 50% off. Say no more. I don't know if I've ever ordered something so fast in my life! I'd only really been after 3 things from the collection, two nail varnishes and the Enchanted Kiss eyeshadow palette.

Inside the palette are four neutral shadows that can be used for a simple daytime eye or smoked up a bit.  The first is a peachy pink laced with gold shimmer. I've never been one for pink eyeshadows but this is surprisingly wearable. I've even used this as a blush and it looks equally as nice, think NARS Orgasm with slightly less shimmer. The second shadow is a dark brown that is packed with gold glitter. This was the only disappointing shade for me, the glitter doesn't translate at all on to the lid. It is really pigmented though and looks lovely in the outer corner of the eye. 

The third in the palette is a matte cream/beige. It's quite similar to Urban Decay's Foxy shadow but this is far more impressive. It's a great shade to have even just to balance out the colour on your eyelids. The last eyeshadow is a medium brown that is a fab crease colour. It could also work really well as a bronzer - I've compared this to my Sleek Contour Kit and it isn't anywhere near as orange toned.

I was a little bit apprehensive of this palette before buying but I'm pleased that I did. All of the shades will be of use to me despite the darker brown being a bit of a dud. Enchanted Kiss is currently sold out at the Disney Store but it may reappear! I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the Unlock the Spell collection based around Belle, Rapunzel and Tiana!

Think Pink

Now that Spring has sprung and the warmer weather has been welcomed with open arms, I thought it'd be the perfect time to shop the stash and dig out my much loved pink products. When it comes to buying makeup, pink is the colour I automatically gravitate towards and it's definitely a shade that suits pretty much everyone.

Nails Inc Totes Pink is free with this month's InStyle magazine along with two others. A creamy baby pink, it's surprisingly flattering on paler skin tones and I can imagine it looks good with a tan too. You can grab this polish throughout the rest of the month so I'd suggest picking it up while you can. 

Tony Moly's Petite Bunny Gloss Bar in Juicy Apple could easily be the first lip product I actually finish. While daunting in the tube, this adorable little stick is actually a tinted lip balm that glides on smoothly and doesn't feel heavy on the lips. Joining this in my lip picks is Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey. I wasn't too fond of this in the beginning, but after rediscovering it last week it hasn't left my makeup bag. The colour lasts an impressive amount of time during the day and is easy to apply. The only thing I don't like about this is the overtly minty smell.

Next up is a couple of cheek products I've been switching between for a few weeks. Topshop's Blush in Flush is a cream to powder formula that admittedly isn't the greatest, but adds a lovely hint of colour to the face. These blushers are very pigmented and at £6 they are definitely one of the more affordable high street products out there. Finally we have Benefit's Posie Tint. Described as a lip and cheek stain, it does a better job at the latter and is a great choice for people looking for a sheerer blush that wont dry out the skin.

MAC Archie's Girls :: Veronica's Blush Pearlmatte Powder

MAC Veronica's Blush Pearlmatte - £21.50

If you haven't heard of the MAC Archie's Girls collection yet, then where have you been? Inspired by the Archie comics, this collection has created a huge amount of hype not only in the UK but around the globe as well. It recently launched exclusively to Selfridges but is expected to be released elsewhere end of February/early March (who knows?)

My boyfriend being the lovely person he is decided to order this in for me for Valentine's. This was the one thing I really wanted from the collection, but was slightly disappointed when I'd read reviews mentioning that it really wasn't a good product for blusher. However, after giving it a go I can thankfully say that's not the case with me. I'm not the palest of people, but I am still quite pale and it can very easily be used as a blusher on me. The packaging has seen mixed reviews, with some thinking it of tacky, whereas I personally love it. I love anything cartoon-y and think it's a fresh change from MAC's regular designs. 

Veronica's Blush is a pearl white-pink powder embossed with matte pink hearts. It can be easily used to highlight the face, or even used as an eyeshadow but I've preferred popping it on my cheeks for a sheer wash of colour. It's great for those who don't want to go overboard with their blusher, as it's subtle yet emphasising.

I do think that it would be less fitting on darker skin tones as the colour may not be distinguishable from the pearl white base but as a highlight I'm assuming it wouldn't be a problem. It's very finely milled and doesn't feel chalky to apply.

I'm not really one to gush over highlighting products and I don't have many in my collection, but I'm really pleased with this and I'm glad I didn't let other reviews sway my opinion. I'm now waiting for Archie's Girls to appear in Debenhams, as the Ronnie Red lipstick looks gorgeous and free delivery plus points sways me slightly! 

Veronica's Blush is still in stock on the Selfridges website so if their delivery cost doesn't phase you I would really recommend picking it up!

Blog Sale Buys :: NARS and MAC

MAC Overtime Lipcreme and NARS Orgasm and Hungry Heart

I'm a big fan of blog sales. If I see one pop up on my feed, I'll instantly take a look and scan for potential bargains. Even though I'm on a spending ban, when I seen these on the Blog of Shadows blog sale my instincts kicked in and I knew I needed these two in my life. 

I purchased MAC's Overtime Pro Longwear Lipcreme and the NARS Hungry Heart/Orgasm duo. I've been wanting to give the Orgasm blush a go for a while now but after I purchased Deep Throat I just couldn't justify it. However £12 was just to good to resist and I'm really glad I bought it. The shimmer is not as prominent on the skin as I originally thought it would be and I can see this becoming a daily favourite. Hungry Heart feels a tiny bit chalkier than Orgasm, but is still quite buttery in texture and is a gorgeous highlighter that I'll be using on a daily basis to give my skin a bit more oomph. 

My second purchase was MAC's Overtime. This is a permanent shade in their Pro Longwear Lipcreme collection and as it retails for £16.50 I think £8 is a total steal. It's a gorgeous baby pink that was used on Jennifer Lawrence during the coronation scene in The Hunger Games. It is the softest, smoothest lipstick I have ever used. It practically melts onto your lips and still provides intense pigmentation. What  makes this even more of a winner for me is that the colour lasts.

Urban Decay Oz The Great and Powerful "Glinda" Palette

Urban Decay Oz "Glinda" Palette - £35

I'm a sucker for good packaging, I just get reeled right on in. And Urban Decay's recent release of their Oz palettes were no exception. They are inspired by Glinda and Theodora in the upcoming Disney film Oz: The Great and Powerful. I picked up the Glinda palette. I already have far too many neutrals in my collection, so I decided sprucing it up with a bit of colour wouldn't be such a bad thing.

This particular palette is filled with girly pinks, purples and shimmery shades, and I couldn't love them more. You can use them subtly for a feminine daytime look, or darken them up a bit for a more smokey evening look.  With the palette you also receive a 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil in Rockstar and a Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Colour in Glinda. Both the eyeshadows and the eye pencil are housed in Urban Decay's Build Your Own palette, which is both sturdy and aesthetically pleasing. I particularly love the gold casing around the shadows.

The shadows you receive in the Glinda palette are the following (named left to right, top to bottom):

• Tornado - A deep purple with a slightly red undertone and a shimmery finish. Great pigmentation, soft and easy to apply.
• Illusion - A soft peach with gold undertones and a frosty finish. Colour payoff is good and feels buttery opposed to chalky.
• Oz - Contains two shades. A very rich gold with a ton of densely packed micro-glitter, and metallic silver also containing micro glitter. The glitter in these does tend to get all over the place, but is nice used in small amounts.
• South - A deep taupe with brown undertones and a metallic finish. Will get a lot of use out of this shade.
• Aura - I'm having a hard time describing these two, but UD describe them as iridescent whites, one with a blue shift, the other with a pink shift. I don't have anything like these, so I'm finding them very interesting!
• Magic - One of my favourites from the palette, Magic is a lavender pink with a gold shimmer. Slightly chalkier than the other shades, but I really do love it.

The Rockstar eye pencil that is included is a very creamy eggplant shade that I suspect I'll get a lot of use out of, as it's not over the top. It's rare that I wear pencil liner (if you had asked me that a few years back my answer would be the complete opposite) but will be smoking it up for nights out. The lip pencil is a lovely rosy brown with shimmer. It's a bit too sticky for me to love it completely, but I'm not one for lipglosses to begin with. 

Above is a look created using the card that is included. Having hazel eyes, I find the purples really make them pop, and the more I look at it the more I like it! If you're after some shimmery pastel shades with the odd darker shadow I'd definitely recommend this palette.

2012 Makeup Favourites

2012 was the year I really started to explore makeup, and I owe most of that to the great blogs that I read. There have been products that I regret buying completely, but there have been some absolute gems among them. Here is a quick run down on my makeup favourites of this year.

1. Clarins Odyssey Eye Quartet (review here) - While a lot of people would probably include the Naked 2 in their annual favourites, this has been the winning eyeshadow palette for me. Colours that I can wear everyday and can glam up for an evening look? I was sold.
2. Revlon Colorstay Foundation (review here) - The best foundation I have ever tried. I love the coverage and staying power, and is suited really well for my skin tone.
3. Real Techniques Buffing Brush - This is a bandwagon I'm glad I jumped on. It has changed the appearance of my foundation completely, and couldn't be happier with this.
4. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer - The Lasting Perfection Concealer was something I didn't buy for a long time. Can such a cheap product really be that good? Apparently it can!
5. Paul and Joe Eyebrow Powder - I bought a couple of Paul and Joe products early this year and this has become my everyday staple for my eyebrows. Their packaging is beyond gorgeous too, and are worth the investment.
6. MAC Plumful Lipstick (review here) - A perfect plum-pink shade, Plumful overtook Faux as my favourite lipstick this year. If I could recommend a MAC lippie to anyone, it would be this.
7. NARS Blusher in Deep Throat (review here) - This was a very recent purchase, but one that has been sitting among my everyday makeup ever since. It has given me such a good impression of NARS products, and I can't wait to try more.

A NARS First :: Deep Throat

NARS Deep Throat - £20.50

For starters, I apologise for how rubbish the colours on my photos are as of recent, there is absolutely no decent light in my house and it's ruining nearly every single photo I take! I've been pining after a NARS blusher for months now, but at £20+ they're certainly not the cheapest. I struggled with choosing a shade - I'm a pink blusher girl at heart but Deep Throat ran along with my pink obsession but offered a slightly different tone compared to others I own with a peach undertone. 

Deep Throat appears much lighter in person than in my photos, and contains a very subtle shimmer. I was a tad weary of this to begin with as I generally hate shimmery blushers, but it doesn't really translate onto the skin, rather it gives a lovely glow. Over the past week I've abandoned my other blushers for this, it's the perfect everyday shade that goes with everything. 

It looks gorgeous when applied with a lighter hand, but the great pigmentation allows it to be built up to create the desired effect. I also adore the packaging, it's so sleek and luxurious - although I have read they can get extremely dirty very quickly so I'm trying my best to keep it in top notch condition!

My only downside to buying this is that it's made me lust after more NARS products! Hopefully some post-Christmas sales will allow my bank balance to appreciate the products more!

Flawless Base Favourite - Revlon Colorstay

Revlon Colorstay Foundation - £12.49

I've never really been all that adventurous when it comes to foundation. If I find something I like, I tend to stick with it. Deeming the MAC foundation I tried at the beginning of the year too orange-y, I scoured the internet for a medium-full coverage foundation that wouldn't highlight the pigmentation in my skin.

I found that in Revlon Colorstay. I honestly have no idea why I switched to Rimmel's Wake Me Up in August, but now I'm back to this I'm determined not to change it again. It gives such a flawless coverage and hides 99% of any imperfections on my skin. It lasts all day on my skin without topping up, and despite being medium-full coverage it looks very natural. 

It's not the cheapest drugstore foundation around, but it's certainly not as pricey as the comparable Estee Lauder Double Wear. The only problem I have with this foundation is that on some days when my skin is feeling particularly dry, it can cling to some patches. However it's still the best foundation I've ever tried.

The lack of pump may bother some, but I'm pretty used to it now. To apply I use the Real Techniques buffing brush.

Clarins Odyssey Eye Quartet

Clarins Odyssey Eye Quartet - £30

If you treat yourself to one thing this Christmas, it should be this - The Clarins Odyssey Eye Quartet. There are definitely makeup products that I have lusted after before, but this was something else entirely. Whether it was the sleek and luxurious design of the packaging or the stunning colours it contains, I just had to have it. 

As you can see, the palette is designed beautifully. I was actually expecting it to be heavy, but it's really nice and lightweight, a palette which I'd definitely travel with. The Odyssey Face Palette is another stunner from the collection, retailing at £35.

It contains four colours - a champagne shade with a touch of shimmer, two browns and a gorgeous gold leaf shadow that can add just a hint of sparkle during the day, or can be glammed up for a dramatic nighttime look. I haven't actually used any other eyeshadow since I got this, I love it that much!

Better yet, all of the shadows contain lovely pigmentation and I've found that they last on the lids all day with minimal creasing. I think this is the star of the Christmas collections currently on offer, and I'll be checking out Clarins products in far more detail in future.

Mac Plumful, a New Favourite

MAC Plumful Lipstick - £14

The amount of times I have considered picking this lipstick up is ridiculous. Being the one lipstick in the stands that really caught my eye, I was surprised I'd never even tried it before. On Saturday though, things changed and Plumful became mine. 

Appearing darker in the tube than it does on the lips, Plumful is a medium pink with hints of plum. It's a shade that will fit in all year round, just dark enough for the Winter months but vibrant enough for Summer. Plumful is a lustre finish, and although they're described as "demi-sheer," it's actually pretty opaque and remains glossy. It's not a lipstick that is drying on the lips, which is a bonus for me.  The wearing time of this shade is decent, around 3-4 hours, and even after eating and drinking it still leaves a slight wash of colour behind.

Although I tend to wear Faux everyday, I think Plumful is carefully climbing to the top of my favourites list. I only have 4 MAC lipsticks, but their formulas really impress me and if I need a new colour, their counter is the first place I tend to look.

Halloween Inspired - Quick & Easy Ventriloquist Dummy

I'm going to start this post off by saying that I'm no makeup artist, but I do enjoy playing with makeup, and find it irrelevant if I wear it out in public or not. Some people spend a lot of money on Halloween, but I don't really do anything for it. However I did this look on my younger sister a couple of weeks ago and really liked the way it turned out. I do apologise for the picture quality though, as my digital camera doesn't seem to be liking any batteries I stick in it at the moment.

The ventriloquist dummy look is really easy to create, and you don't need any sort of costume makeup to do it, which makes it even better! I've listed the products and how I've used them below.

• Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation in Ivory as a base.
• Mac Studio Sculpt Concealer in NW15 to conceal any spots/bags.
• Rimmel Stay Matte Powder to set the foundation.
• Mac Eyeshadow in Espresso both as a crease shadow and to contour the hollows of the cheeks. I also used this to fill in my eyebrows.
• Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Bootycall as an inner corner highlight and all over the eyelid.
• 17 Blusher in First Kiss used heavily on the cheeks.
• L'Oreal Perfect Slim Superliner as an upper-lid eyeliner, to create the chin and the dramatic bottom lashes.
• Lancome Hypnose Star Mascara to further dramatise the lashes.
• Topshop Inhibition Lipstick for the dark lips.

It seems like I've used a lot of products here, and to an extent I have but they're all products that I would use on an everyday basis. I'm actually quite gutted that I won't get to wear this out this year!

Currently Loving: Lancôme Hypnôse Star Mascara

Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara - £21*

I'm not an avid mascara fan. Shocker, right? Mascara is a daily essential for many, but I've never found myself very interested in using it. I've been using a MAC mascara for quite some time now, but it doesn't do much to my lashes except make them slightly blacker. So when I heard Tatler magazine was giving away a 2ml sample of the new Lancôme Hypnôse Star mascara, I wasn't too bothered about picking it up, particularly as I couldn't find the magazine anywhere in my area.

But, when I stopped at a WH Smith on my trip to the Harry Potter Studios I thought I'd grab a magazine for the journey, and I spotted Tatler. I won't lie, I wasn't impressed with the magazine but I am loving the mascara. 

The brush is something I've never really seen before, it features both a flat and rounded side. The flat side is used to apply the mascara to the roots of the lashes, while the rounded side is used to add volume and body. More than one coat of the mascara can end up slightly clumpy, but it does the job exceptionally well. I have long-ish lashes, but they stick out straight rather than up. So the fact that this actually worked (and lasts all day!) really impressed me. 

I am seriously going to consider buying the full sized mascara when I run out of the sample, despite the high price! However if you've found anything amazing for a fraction of the price please do let me know!

Liz Earle Healthy Glow Powder Blush in Blossom

Hello! I can't believe it's been almost a week since my last post! I have no idea where the time is going so I promise I will try and post more, especially since I have quite a few things to review as of recent. Today's post is a review on the Liz Earle Healthy Glow Powder Blush in the shade "Blossom".

Ever since the new makeup collection was released I have been pining over these blushers. It's weird, since this time last year I didn't even wear blusher at all and now it's at the top of my favourite beauty products. Anyway, all the colours in this collection look completely natural, perfect for everyday wear and will suit most skin tones, which is, in my opinion, what a cosmetics brand should take into consideration when creating products. 

Initially, I swayed towards the shade "Nectar", which is described as a fresh rose-pink. I probably would have bought that one if I hadn't told myself I always pick up similar colours. So my second choice was "Blossom."

"Blossom" is an old rose coloured blusher, which is described as easy to wear and gives an understated blush to most skins from pale to light olive. I find it a very flattering colour, and it's very easily blended onto the skin. The blusher isn't chalky in the slightest, it's nice and soft to the touch and the longevity is very decent, as it's still left on my face after being at work for 8 hours. However, it would look slightly nicer if I topped it up during the day. Another plus of this product is the packaging, I think it looks incredibly high end and very elegant? I can't really think of another word to describe it but there are loads of more expensive brands that just don't do it for me packaging-wise, and I think having nice packaging on an expensive product is important but that might be just me, haha!

As it retails for £16.50, it does seem slightly on the pricier side, but it's totally justifiable in my honest opinion. I know the swatch I've included is rubbish, but none of my cameras pick up swatches very well at all! 

Have you tried any of the Liz Earle blushers? I was tempted to pick this shade up as a cream blusher but chickened out as I'm not too familiar with them!

L'Occitane Pivoine Délicate Collection

L'Occitane Pivoine Délicate Duo Roll-on & Gloss - £16

L'Occitane Pivoine Délicate Lipstick - £12.50

The last time I was in the L'Occitane store I was eyeing these up but I didn't buy, but couldn't resist this time. The Pivoine Délicate collection centres around a fragrance which is described as "blending the silky softness of peony and rose petals with the green transparency of lily of the valley in a luminous floral accord with a soft powdery tail."

I've never been one for floral fragrances. Ever. I prefer my scents to be sweet or fruity. But after being ultimately enticed by the packaging of these products, I picked up the Pivoine Délicate Duo Roll-on and Gloss to have a sniff of the perfume inside of it and I was very pleasantly surprised. The fragrance is not overpowering in the slightest, which is what I find most floral perfumes to be. It's very subtle and feminine, and perfect for the summer. I'm glad that I picked up this instead of the lone lipgloss, as at £16 for both a lipgloss and a perfume it isn't too bad a price, and I can definitely see it becoming a stable in my everyday makeup as it's the perfect travel size. I thought it was my imagination at first, but the lip products are subtly scented with the Pivoine Délicate fragrance which is a nice change from the usual vanilla scented products.

The collection contains three lipsticks, Pivoine Délicate, Corail Charmant and Brun Discret. I picked up Pivoine Délicate, as it's a very natural shade close to my lip colour, making it perfect for everyday wear. My lips aren't in the best of condition at the minute, as I have an awful habit of biting them but the lipstick felt softening and gave them a subtle sheen without making them look caked and cracked. If you're looking for an everyday lipstick, I suggest you pick this up! 

Brun Discret is a golden-beige colour, slightly darker than Pivoine Délicate, and Corail Charmant is described as a veil of coral-pink and golden reflections. I didn't try out Brun Discret in store, but did have a go of Corail Charmant and it's definitely a more natural shade of coral. All three lipsticks would be suitable for wear on a daily basis. 

I don't tend to buy lipgloss because I hate having sticky lips, but the Pivoine Délicate lipgloss, although slightly thick in texture, applies smoothly and actually feels nice to wear! There are also three (four if you include the perfume and gloss duo) glosses in the collection, which compliment the three lipsticks. The lone lipglosses retail at £11.50.

In regards to the packaging, it makes the product feel incredibly luxurious and if you whipped these beauties out in front of anyone I'm sure they'd make a comment!

Eau La Liner in Moulin Rouge

Sleek Makeup Eau La La Liner in Moulin Rouge - £3.99 from Superdrug

I've been pining after the Sleek "Rose Gold" blusher for a while now, but whenever I go into Superdrug, they don't have it in stock. However, they did have quite a few of the Eau La La Liners. I planned on buying two of these, Moulin Rouge (pictured above) and Lingerie, but they only had the former. Now, I'm not a big wearer of red lipstick, unless I'm just playing around with makeup in my bedroom. But I seen this on Vivianna's blog and was convinced I had to have it. 

The Eau La La liners come in a variety of different shades, and the intention is that you can use them on your eyes, lips, brows and body. They're very easy to apply considering they're in a pencil form, making little details less of a hassle.

But what wowed me most about them was how pigmented they are. At £3.99 it really is a steal, and you definitely get what you pay for. Although I'm not actually as pale skinned (dodgy white balance!) as I look in the image above, this particular shade could work on both lighter and darker skins.

I found that this wasn't drying on the lips at all, but it took me a while to become familiarised with the feel of the product on my lips. I don't know whether this is due to the liner being smudgeproof and waterproof but for me, I found it an odd sensation having the product stay put on my lips, rather than being able to smooth it around.

17 Blusher in First Kiss

I went out and bought this blusher after seeing Sophie's post about it. I've been tempted for a while to go out and buy the NARS "Orgasm" blush, but the little voice inside my head keeps saying it's too expensive. As I don't own "Orgasm," I can't comment on the similarities, but looking at the images Sophie posted I'd say it's a pretty fantastic dupe, considering it's only £3.49 from Boots. 

In terms of it's longevity, I took only this on my 4 day trip to Disneyland Paris at the beginning of the month, and it lasted the entire 17 hour coach journey as well as two full days I spent in Disneyland, so it wears pretty well without having to top it up as the day goes on. 

The blusher does have a shimmer to it, but I'd say it's quite subtle. It's also pretty high on the pigment scale for such a cheap product, and blends very easily. I'd definitely recommend for anyone on a budget!
